Whenever I get my paperwork for a flight, I check for familiar names in first class. Mostly because I need to mentally prepare myself not to completely spaz out when someone famous comes on board and would like to live two hours of a normal and unbothered life. I totally respect that.
"Robert Flay?" I thought aloud.
I'll be honest, I don't even watch very much Food Network. Because I don't have cable. When I do watch it, it's usually if I'm on an exercise machine. Watching that channel lasts about five minutes because watching cooking shows while I'm trying not to think of cheeseburgers seems like cruel and unusual punishment.
So sure enough, it was Bobby.
Let me take a moment of remembrance for how nervous I was to serve a gross airplane meal to a renowned chef.
IMAGINE my surprise when the next guy walked on.
I'm sad to admit that I could not remember his name. But I immediately texted my friends and said,
"BERNARD FROM THE SANTA CLAUSE IS ON MY FLIGHT RIGHT NOW."
Bobby Flay was a bit of an afterthought to me at that point.
Mostly because,
I have grown up with this guy!
He stepped in as Elf mentor and magic snow globe provider for Charlie!
He was creepy child star Barry Corman when Michael J Fox and Cindy Lauper and Nathan Lane were running a talent agency (if anyone else has seen and loved this movie - SPEAK NOW)
He wooed Wednesday Addams while their summer camp went up in flames!
He was best friends with JGL and took Kat's quirky emo best friend to prom!
And finally, DOES ANYONE REMEMBER WHEN HE WAS CRAZY AND STABBED LUCY AND DR. CARTER RIGHT AFTER THEY REALIZED THEY LOVED EACH OTHER AND THEN SHE DIED?
Okay, end pop culture rant. Just know that he is the nicest fellow ever.
THAT's CRAZY! :) Bobbie Flay is actually someone I'd LOVE to meet (little crush on him).
ReplyDeleteHe wasn't the friendliest of friendlies, but I like giving them the benefit of the doubt. I am sure it's nice for them to just ride a plane without a bunch of annoyances. I was relieved when he didn't want any food. Can you imagine giving a famous chef airplane food? No bueno.
Deletehow very cool!! But i'm sure you were a professional flight attendant and held back the excited squeals ;) *cheers* to seeing these peeps IRL!
ReplyDeleteI just stand out of view and act a fool!
DeleteHoly balls.. I would have died if I met Bobby Flay! Very cool!
ReplyDeleteI was more excited about Bernard!
DeleteI'm so jealous. Seriously, Bernard? Don't get me wrong, I love Bobby..but..but my crush of all crushes, is david krumholtz
ReplyDeleteHahaha I am so glad you understand. The fact that he was so polite just validated my childhood.
DeleteWhoa, that is too awesome. So happy to know he's a nice guy :)
ReplyDeleteIt's true! How refreshing.
DeleteI wanna know what Bobby thought of the meatloaf! ;-)
ReplyDeleteTHANKFULLY he didn't eat anything :)
DeleteBERNARD!!!!?????!?!?!?!? SO MUCH JEALOUSY!!! My 8 year old self was head over heels in love with him the first time I watched The Santa Clause. My 23 year old self still is. Omg. I can't even breathe right now! JEALOUS.
ReplyDeleteI can really only think of him as Bernard, but I forgot just how many of my favorite movies he has been in. I was embarrassed that I didn't even know his actual name!
DeleteAhh! I love Bernard! I totally couldn't have told you his name either but I'd be super excited to see him on a plane!
ReplyDeleteBernard is his name. Forever and always. I even have a hard time not picturing him with those dreadlock things.
DeleteI was on a flight with Mr. Miyagi (from Karate Kid) once...and I was pretty young so those movies were not "classics" by then (yet). That's the best I've got. :)
ReplyDeleteWhat! That's a good one!
DeleteWow, how cool that you have a job that means you randomly see famous people! :O
ReplyDeleteIt's true - I probably like that aspect more than most :)
DeleteOk, I know this is way after you posted, but I came over from E Tells Tales, and then got sucked into your celeb sightings (SO JEALOUS BTW), and yes, I watched and LOVED Life With Mikey! Anytime milk is a little bit off, I ALWAYS think of this movie.
ReplyDeleteOK so I am what, two years late to this party, but I just found your blog via good ole instagram and you know, rabbit holed my way to this post and was instructed to speak now if I shared the love for Life with Mikey. I absolutely loved that movie! Watched it all the time. I had forgotten about Barry because he is seared into my brain as Bernard...
ReplyDeleteahahaha YESSSS! Why haven't more people seen that movie? SUNBURST COOKIES LIGHT UP MY DAY!
